The Land Rover Defender has always had a strong connection with rugby. The vehicle shares the same inner strength and toughness as the sport. In light of this, the Defender is a proud sponsor of the Rugby World Cup France 2023.
As a result of this honour, the Defender has decided to introduce the Trailblazers. As part of Defender’s campaign for the Rugby World Cup 2023, a few courageous heroes are being celebrated. These incredible individuals have overcome challenges that others would have found impossible.
Amongst these Trailblazers is Zainab Alema, a Muslim woman from London who started her community for Muslim women who wanted to play the game of women’s rugby.
Ryuichi Nagayama from Tokyo refuses to let old age get in the way of the love he has for the game of rugby, and at the age of 90 years old, he is still an active member and player of the local rugby club. It’s not only the passion for the game that keeps Ryuichi wanting to play, but it has become a comfort ever since his wife passed on.
Jacob Pickering is the inspiring 14-year-old who was born without his left forearm, but even though this should’ve been a grave challenge for him, it has not stopped him from playing the game that he has always loved and admired ever since he was a small child. According to Jacob, he refuses to allow his arm to get in the way of playing.
Kylie Grimes from London, confined to a wheelchair after a spinal injury, has always dreamed of being an Olympic medalist since she was 5 years old. For a short moment, it must’ve felt like that dream would be crushed, but Kylie sees it only as a slight hindrance; in 2020, she became the first woman to win an Olympic medal in wheelchair rugby.
These are just some of the inspiring heroes that CMH Land Rover Menlyn would like to share with you. In every one of these trailblazers lies incredible inner strength and courage to overcome the impossible. We refer to them as the Defenders of Tomorrow. These heroes remind us that we should never quit pursuing our dreams, regardless of our challenges.
